Become a Top Tier Saver this year!

The beginning of the year is a time to turn over a new leaf, and here are some great tips to help you become a savvy saver. Every aspect of daily life can get in the way of saving, whether it is eating out, cost of clothing, transportation, or that latte you get every morning. Changing little things can save you hundreds of dollars a year!

  • Substitute expensive coffee drinks for normal coffee. The extra $2 you spend daily could be saved by buying a regular coffee rather than a cappuccino or latte. This could result in a savings of $500 in the course of one year.
  • Judge clothing in terms of quality as well as price. An inexpensive shirt or coat is not the best choice if it wears out in less than a year. Consider fabric, stitching, and how well it washes.
  • When driving, avoid fast start-ups and stops. Over time, you will save hundreds of dollars on lower gas usage and maintenance costs.

Saving money helps improve not only your financial well-being but your overall health. It all starts when you set a goal and make a plan to reach that goal. So, what is your goal? Will your goal be to set up an emergency savings, get out of debt, or make a down payment on a car or home? The possibilities are endless, and we here at Apollo hope you enjoy a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017!

Preparing for a new pet

Did Santa Paws bring a four-pawed bundle of joy to your home? Or will 2017 be the year you welcome a new fur-ever friend to the family? Here are some helpful tips for all new and soon-to-be pet parents!  .

Pet Proofing

  • Watch for sharp edges that could cause injury, and place anything that your new kitten or puppy could chew, lick or ingest out of reach.
  • Secure bookshelves or televisions that could topple over, especially if they jump up on them or can crash into them.

Lap it Up

  • Pick food and water bowls appropriate for your pet’s size. You may need to upgrade as they grow.
  • Ceramic bowls are easily cleaned in the dishwasher, but are easily broken. Aluminum and hard plastic are more durable choices.

Toy Time

  • This is the fun part! Toss a variety of types of toys into your shopping basket. Some pets prefer one “texture” over another, so try a mix of natural rubber, ribbon, string, rope and soft plush.
  • Remember, there is no 100% "safe toy," so always monitor playtime to prevent ingestion or choking.

As pet parents, we want to provide our dogs and cats with the best possible care, no matter what. But no matter how prepared you are, your pet may still have an accident or get ill. That’s why we provide Petplan® Pet Insurance so you’ll have help covering those costs.  For a free quote, click here.

Night Driving: Tips for Safety

Driving at night can be a challenge for some people, but others seem to prefer it. But driving at night does pose more hazards than daylight driving because of a reduced visibility radius. Other factors that can make driving at night more difficult include rain and fog. Here are some ways you can improve your visibility at night as well as improving how well others can see you:

  • Install and use fog lights, especially if you live where fog is a constant issue. These enable you to see further and also "lights up" your vehicle as well.
  • If your car is a few years old, your headlight bezels may be yellowed and foggy. This cuts down on the available light getting to the road. A headlight restoration kit, available at any auto parts store and big box retailers and a few minutes of your time can bring these back to showroom perfect.
  • Make sure all of your marker lights, blinkers and all brake lights are working properly. These enable other drivers to see your car much easier at night.
  • Change out headlights for either halogen headlights or LED's these distribute light further down the road enabling you more time to react.

Unfortunately, regardless of the precautions we take, sometimes things still happen. That’s why it’s important to have adequate auto insurance coverage. You want to take all the precautions possible when driving at night and insurance is simply one of those necessary precautions.
